Are dental schools a good place to get simple dental work done?

November 29th, 2008 by admin

I have about 3 or 4 fillings needed. This is a major state university dental school I'm wondering about.

Yes, you will receive great care, and the work is checked at least by two different people. The only two disadvantages I can really think of are the time commitment, and material selection. If you want "white" fillings, depending on where the cavities are in the mouth, it may not happen. Secondly it will take 3-4 visits to have this done at about 2-3 hours each time. If you can live with that, its great. Good luck!

Anyone have advice on getting into dental school?

November 29th, 2008 by admin

I never really applied myself in highschool and then I went to community college from highschool and for the first time I actually tried. I just got my assosiates degree in Business Administration and I was really shocked at how well I performed when I applied myself. My GPA is a 3.7 and I really want to fuful my childhood dream ( that I never knew I was capable of) and become a dentist. If I would have known earlier that school would be so rewarding then I would have majored in Biology pre professional earlier, but I had no idea.

My question is: Will it hurt my chances of getting into dental school if I stay at my community college for the first two years and then transfer to Rutgers from there to go on for my four year degree before applying to UMDNJ? The only reason I can;t transfer now is because I missed the deadline for the application and I want to start ASAP since the process will take me 7 more years.

I can't think of a reason for Dental schools to deny you based on your schooling backround if you take the right classes and get good grades. I hear they are very open to applicants with non science degrees. Just be sure to start on your sciences as soon as possible and take the time to shadow a dentist or work in a dental office. This will show the dental schools you apply to that you are serious about the profession. Best of luck to you!

How is Dental Hygiene school?

November 29th, 2008 by admin

I was going to try to get into radiology school for an RT, but i’m thinking about dental hygiene.. Just wondering how it would be? I really like it.. its just i’m not so good at science and math even though I am trying to work on it.. And I believe if I set my mind to it i could do it.. but yeah just wondering if its difficult or something of that matter?

My daughter is in her last year of dental hygiene school. She has found that what she was told by dental hygienists who are out of school is correct. Be ready to give up 2 years of your life to become a dental hygienist. She can see the light at the end of the tunnel but it has been quite stressful for her to this point. Much is demanded of her in a short period of time. It will be rewarding when she is through, though. You just have to ask yourself if you are willing to buckle down and work hard for two full years.

Do you have to go to school to become a certified, or registered dental assistant?

November 29th, 2008 by admin

I am currently in school to become a Dental Lab Tech but I am still not sure if that's what I want to do. I am going back and forth between that and Dental Assisting. I am trying to found out everything I can about both before I make my decision (wages, schooling, etc..)

If you go to www.danb.org, you can find out what requirements are necessary in your state to be a dental assistant… some states mandate that you have a license, or have your certification, while others do not.

Entry-level salary in my area is $10-$14/hr, while licensed assistants can earn twice that much and more…..with additional independent responsibilities.

Best of luck to you!

:)
